I figure my disbelief is suspended high enough, though, and regardless of how they look, the new characters bring all kinds of different gameplay. Well, I dunno - is that any more or less weird than a purple kid dragon? A question for the ages. Bit of a departure from the game's usual hero, yes? He's not exactly from space, actually having been raised in a lab by the Professor from Spyro 2, but he's done up in a mohawked helmet like a refugee from a 50s Martian-invader movie, and his answer to fiery breath is a goofy-looking blaster pistol. Pardon me if I go a bit strange when I run these off, because you have to admit they're a little goofy - aside from Spyro and Sparx, you'll also play as Sheila the Kangaroo, Sergeant Byrd the flying penguin, Bentley the Yeti, and Agent 9, the.um.space monkey. At least thirty percent of the game will be played in these four different personas, each of whom presents a very different game. But once you get to exploring the sorceress' Forgotten World, you find four more characters who want a piece of her as well. Just as you rescued the elder dragons in the first Spyro, now you have to rescue the young ones. See, the plot of Year of the Dragon is nothing too surprising - an evil sorceress has stolen the baby dragon eggs, and Spyro is the only dragon small enough to go down the rabbit hole into her Rhynoc-ruled empire.
